Bloodbath at the House of Death

Henry: “I suppose a fork's out of the question?”
Deborah: “Not necessarily but let's have dinner first”

And that probably sums up the whole film in a short conversation. As I was watching it (while sitting at my desk at work eating lunch), it felt weird that it wasn't fifteen years ago (back in the days of only 4 channels!) and I wasn't watching it on my tiny little twelve-inch television in my bedroom in the middle of the night. Total weirdness! A bunch of scientists are sent to Headstone Manor to investigate creepy goings-on that have occurred since 18 guests were killed in a single night years earlier. Meanwhile a group of Satanic monks (led by the ever-marvellous Vincent Price in seriously sardonic form) who usually use the place plot to kill the scientists inhabiting the 'Master's' house!

This film just provoked such crazy nostalgia in me. I kinda wish I had seen it years ago because it's not really aged well and I'd have probably enjoyed it more back then. Having said that, I did enjoy it and all it's madness, puns and cheesy jokes. It's just good fun, bloody and with a cast clearly up for the gags. Plus someone has sex with a poltergeist and someone else gets killed being sucked into a toilet. It's very silly - recommended for fans of the “Carry On...” films as well as Kenny Everett fans.
