Countess Dracula

Hammer borrows from history here with a tale based on the lore surrounding the Countess Elizabeth Bathory - a nasty piece of work allegedly responsible for the deaths of 600 young woman through various means of torture and craziness. In this film, the widowed Countess Elisabeth Nodosheen (Ingrid Pitt wearing some crazy make up) discovers that by bathing in the blood of virgins her youth and beauty can be temporarily restored. Taking up the identity of her daughter Ilona, who was sent away years before to escape the marauding Turks, the Countess romances Imre, whilst seeking the assistance of her long time lover Dobi and personal maid Julie to help keep her awash with virgin blood. Things start to go awry, however when the real Ilona shows up from her exile...

Generally this is an enjoyable romp through typical Hammer period fare. The title's a bit of a misnomer as it's really nothing to do with vampires and all to do with Ingrid Pitt getting her tits out for the lads and bathing in the blood of sacrificed virgins. So nothing particularly bad there . All in all, it's good fun to watch and if you're a Hammer fan then you'll love it.
