Dead Mary
A group of whiny friends travel to a lakeside cabin in the woods to spend the weekend (I wonder how many times I've written variations on that sentence in my time?!). While they're there, they decide to play 'Dead Mary' (another one of those mirror, candle, chant, reanimate a corpse type jollities), a game that summons the spirit of a dead witch who possesses the players and incites murder...
Wasn't really expecting much from this one to be honest. It does start off with a killer situation - a recently broken up couple travel together into the middle of nowhere in a car. A nightmare and horror movie in itself!! As much as the plot is a bit 'been-there-done-that', at least the characters aren't all really annoying. Well, the guys anyways. It's a little bit slow and meandering - particularly the bit where they all summon Dead Mary separately - way to kill the pace of a movie!) but it's not the worst film I've ever seen. That said, there's not too much to recommend it by either - a few nice shots but way too few and far between. Mediocrity may not be a crime but it isn't something to aspire to either, my friends!
