Dead Silence
After Jamie Ashen's wife is murdered immediately following the delivery of a creepy ventriloquist's dummy, Jamie Ashen (Ryan Kwanten) returns to his hometown of Raven's Fair to solve the mystery of the doll's previous owner Mary Shaw and finds out why you should never, ever scream...
Any film involving ventriloquist's dummies already has a leg up on the creepiness ladder - ventriloquist dummies are welll creepy. I think that the traditional style dummie (as opposed to Nookie the Bear or Scorch the Dragon or anything like that) is just freaky as hell. I don't know what attracts people to these things.
It's a pretty decent film tho. It's written by the guys who gave us the first Saw film and it stars Donnie Wahlberg as a cop investigating the death of Jamie's wife. I used to have a big thing for Donnie Wahlberg when he was in New Kids on the Block. I thought he was gorgeous. Now he's a bit odd looking and balding...
It's not too bad a film but there's a fatal flaw in the plot department over why someone might come back from the dead. I'll not go into detail because it'll give too much away. Generally tho, it's an interesting, old fashioned ghost story that's worth a watch. Plus it's not a remake of a Foreign Language film or a 're-imagining' of an old classic so that's also big ticks in the plus box.
