My Little Eye

Five strangers agree to spend six months in an isolated house while their every move is filmed for an reality webcast. The promise of a million dollars each if everyone remains in the house for the entire time is the prize. And if one leaves everyone loses. But strange and unnerving things begin happening to the housemates that allude to incidents in their past. Is it all part of the game? Or is someone watching them a lot closer than they think?

I have to admit that this is my second attempt at watching this film - I rented it a couple of years ago and me and my other half only managed to get twenty minutes into it. It's a little bit slow - though apparently there was originally a four-hour long cut of the film which tested badly (there's a shock!). To be honest, even at the shortened length of 95 minutes, I think there's leeway in there to cut it down into an hour long tv special. Which I think would work well because here we have another case of good idea gone slightly awry. It's quite creepy, the acting's pretty decent and the whole storyline is quite interesting - and still relevant even though a similar (veeeeeery similar) idea was explored in "Cradle of Fear" released the year before this one. It's just far too slow to get into.

And just a wee note: whoever was let loose on the sound towards the end of the film needs banned from working in sound ever again. The choice of weird music when the film really gets going (the last twenty minutes or so!) is, to put it mildly, bloody awful! Really. Really. Bad!
