If you haven't seen this film yet, I urge you to get off your arses and go rent it, buy it or obtain it in some other fashion. It's not very often a decent and recent horror comes my way and, surprisingly enough (where's the sarcasm button on this bloody keyboard!?), it's not from Hollywood! In Spanish with subtitles, this movie follows Angela and her cameraman Pablo as they follow a fire crew's night shift for a documentary called "While You Sleep". The team get called out to an apartment block where an elderly woman is trapped in her apartment and is clearly somewhat distressed. Then the building gets sealed off and everything goes somewhat awry...
It's really hard to write a review of this movie without giving anything away. Normally that doesn't bother me much but I think this is a gem of a film and I wouldn't like to spoil it. I can say that the acting is pretty much spot on and the use of the camera as a 'character', as our window to the action, is done really well. Some may not like the POV work - apparently people have claimed it's given them motion sickness - but I think it adds real urgency and makes the audience feel like part of the action.
Catch this if you can - preferably before the American remake "Quarantine" makes its way over here. Because another dumbed down remake is exactly what the world needs (where's that button again?).
