Silent Hill
Rose (Radha Mitchell, Pitch Black) and her husband Sean Bean (Sharpe) are concerned about their adopted daughter Sharon's nightmares and sleepwalking. The only clue they have is the name of the town "Silent Hill" which the girl screams out in her sleep. Against her husband's wishes, Rose takes Sharon to Silent Hill, only to be knocked unconscious when she crashes her car on the way into town. When she awakes, Sharon is missing and Rose must find her amid the shadowy and secretive town of Silent Hill, facing strange monsters and reality shifts on the way.
Visually, this film is absolutely stunning. The creatures are superbly created and there's a strange richness about the whole visual experience which draws you into the darkness. That said, it's not a great film and it takes a while to get going. The beginning of the movie is fairly slow but gets more interesting once we get into Silent Hill and start to realise the secrets within. As ever, Rahda Mitchell plays a plank of wood very well and Sean Bean plays Sean Bean very well - the acting is not very good. If you can look past Silent Hill's shortfalls, the monstrous and effects-laden parts of the movie are well worth a look. Overall as a movie experience tho, it's on the mediocre side.
