The Vault Of Horror
Another day, another remake. Or 'reimagining' or whatever. At least this time the only thing the remake and original have in common is the killer's arsenal - a toolbox of doom! In this version, Nell (horror regular Angela Bettis (Nell)) and her student doctor husband come to live in the once-grand but now dilapidated 'Lusman Arms'. Something supernatural and evil is attached to the building however...
I'm not even going to beat around the bush here. This isn't very good. The acting is fine, the direction is fine (Tobe Hooper makes the best of a bad lot and manages to inject a fair amount of desolation and claustrophobia into the proceedings) but nothing can save the fact that the film's just not very good. A 'being' despatches people with the aid of a trusty tool kit, and there's a bit of supernatural plot exposition thrown in and an elderly 'in-the-know' gent for good measure. It's just very patchy and not really worth the effort!
