Professor Driscoll is part of a coven of witches led by the landlady of the hotel, Mrs Newless, and they practice human sacrifice in the pursuit of immortality. Nan's brother Richard and her boyfriend Bill manage to break up the coven and Mrs Newless is revealed as Elizabeth Selwyn, the witch from 1692 who they tried to burn at the beginning of the film. She finally gets char-grilled and fulfils her destiny to be burned at the stake.
