In the Woods (1999)
I bought this one cos it cost me a pound one day I was in the supermarket! However, now I realize why. Cheesy dialogue, stilted acting, really poor production values and a clichéd plot turn this movie into something fit for those weird channels in the late hundreds on the Sky box that show‘made for tv’ crappy movies all the time. Two firefighters take a break from their rough jobs and go hunting in the woods where they stumble upon a recent grave. After taking an odd decision to dig it up (rather than contact the authorities – cos that’s too sensible!), they discover, amongst other things, a horned skull which unleashes terror in the form of a big freaky beasty thing…
And it feels like we’ve done all this before, only better! It’s seriously woeful! The acting in particular grates worse than the ‘smell the fart’ acting in daytime American soaps. The only redeeming feature is that it only set me back a pound. I still think it might have been a better idea to spend my pound on a coffee – at least it would’ve kept me awake rather than sending me to sleep!
