Resident Evil: Degeneration (2008)

The first Resident Evil film instalment to take place within the same universe as the original games, Degeneration sees Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy reunited for the first time since Resident Evil 2 (a pretty cool game which, sadly, I’m completely rubbish at!). The T-Virus has been intentionally released in Harvardville and Redfield and Kennedy must reunite to stop a deadly threat before history repeats itself and Harvardville becomes another Raccoon City.

I have to admit, within the first ten minutes of this movie I was fairly hooked. As much as the human characters seem somewhat stilted, the action sequences and the zombie participation certainly isn’t! The plane crash that really kick starts the action is really well done and completely jaw dropping. And once again we have lurching zombies that need a shot/blow to the head to take out – gore-tastic, man! Generally the whole film looks amazing (again, apart from the people who look a bit like they’ve had too much botox – faces are just too smooth and without enough expression and Senator Davis looks a bit like he’s wearing a plastic Hallowe’en mask) and the story’s pretty intriguing. Possibly the best of the Resident Evil films so far I reckon – and this is coming from a fan of the others (well, the first two!) even tho they’re pretty shit! Note: There are some nice little touches in this film too like blood or water being splattered on the ‘camera lens’ – nice!
