Me and my other half went to the cinema to see the first Saw movie not long after it first came out and [see other review] it was one of the best ones I’d seen in recent times. So I was fairly resistant to watch any of the sequels so as not to ruin the experience. But in the interests of science, this is one of the series that I’ve decided to make my way through every instalment so off we merrily go.
Detective Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg – who was my favourite from New Kids on the Block in a previous life) and his team corner Jigsaw in his layer where Matthews must extract information from Jigsaw to save the lives of his son and a group of others. All of whom have awoken in a house filled with deadly Jigsaw ‘games’ designed to test their survival instincts. They are also breathing in a deadly toxin, which will kill them in 2 hours unless they survive these games to receive the antidote.
It’s actually not too bad this one. It held my attention anyways and there were a fair few moments where my jaw dropped in a cartoonlike manner at some of Jigsaw’s mad devices. The pit of syringes was possibly one of the down points cos I absolutely hate needles! Just thinking about it makes me shiver. It’s not as good as the first part but it’s still a pretty decent film, pretty well acted and totally watchable. Tobin Bell as Jigsaw more annoyed me than anything else tho. I think the idea of Jigsaw is perhaps more of a foreboding villain than the man in person. Still, I’m approaching part three with less trepidation now!
